charitable giving

When booking a sax player to play for your wedding, party or big event, it probably wouldn’t cross your mind to take some of your saved pennies and give them to charity.

I mean, when I make big purchases it doesn’t cross mine - however - when I see that there’s some kind of good impact coming from a purchase I make, it makes me feel a little bit better about where I’m choosing to put my hard earned money!

I’ve always been into raising money for charity, whether that’s running silly amounts of miles (would NOT recommend training for a marathon mid Wedding season!) or donating my hair to little princess trust before I went colourful, it’s just part of what makes me tick as a human.

Because giving to charity and trying to make the world a better place is a big part of my life, my core values and everyday thoughts; I thought it was about time I incorporate it into my business life too. Since March 2023 I have been giving a small percentage from every booking to charity, as well as planting some trees!

In 2023, thanks to my wonderful clients, we managed to raise over £460 for Shelter UK, and plant 116 trees with Just One Tree!

This year, I decided I wanted to increase the percentage for each booking, and plant 2 trees for every booking I play at!

This year’s charity of choice:

Seashell Trust

Seashell Trust is a charity close to my heart - one of my best friends works at both the School and College and shares so many stories of how much Seashell helps students and families thrive in everyday life.

Seashell trust is a national learning disability charity supporting children and young adults with complex learning difficulties, disabilities, and additional communication needs from across the UK. They have centres in Manchester which provide not just educational support, but respite care and wellbeing support.

Plant some trees:

Ecologi

So it may come as no surprise, but I drive an awful lot with my line of work! Some weekends can be over 1000 miles (I KNOW!) and other weekends I may even need to fly somewhere to play for a gorgeous destination wedding.

I get THE BIG WORRY about the damage that I may personally be causing to the planet, and so I decided that I would start planting trees to try and combat that.

Ecologi is a fantastic certified B corporation that helps me track how many trees I’ve planted, where they’re going to live, and can also do things like offset carbon footprints (another goal of mine)!

Plus, if you know me well, you know that it can be set up as an automation which means anytime any new bookings come in, 2 seeds get fired off to be planted!

If you would like to join me in planting some trees or offsetting some of your carbon footprint, you can do so at the button below:

 FAQs

  • Every year I pick a different charity, depending on my personal circumstances, so this one is the one I have chosen at this moment in time!

  • I take a small percentage of my booking fee and pay the charity of choice each month. So if I were to play for 10 events in a month, I'd multiply the percentage by 10 and donate that to the charity at the end of the month.

  • If you decide to donate to the charity yourself, there will be a transaction fee that you can decide to cover (or not). For my donations, I pay the fee to cover the costs for the charity.

  • With Ecologi, I can not only track how many trees I've planted over the year, but also find out where in the world they have ended up. You can also offset your carbon footprint with Ecologi, which will be one of my future aims in the next few years!

  • Giving to charity is something I've always done. It is just part of who I am, and who I want to be. I am very fortunate to live the life I do, and if I can give back in any small way then I will choose to do so.
